May 2007 Youth of the Month Olivia Ramirez - St. Killian's School Hartford Project Care is proud to announce Olivia Ramirez as Youth of the Month for May 2007. Olivia is an eighth grade student at St. Killian’s School. She is an excellent student, a strong leader, and is involved in numerous activities, many of which involve helping others. Olivia is a valuable member of our Student Council this year, and was also involved in Student Council in 6th and 7th grade at Central Middle School. Olivia really takes a leadership role in Student Council this year. She leads several subcommittees of the Student Council and works hard to ensure that all of the activities that the council does are a success. Olivia is also dedicated to community service. Over spring break, she helped serve food to those in need at a shelter in Milwaukee. She really enjoyed this experience because she had the opportunity to help others. In addition, she will be going to a work camp this summer, traveling to Pennsylvania for a week to help fix up houses for people in need. Additionally, Olivia is plays with three different soccer clubs and plays volleyball and basketball. Even with all of these activities, she manages to get good grades and has been on the honor roll each quarter this year. She is a model student and a true asset to our community! May 2007 Asset Builder of the Month Ray and Kim Nelson - Hartford Culvers There is good reason why Ray and Kim Nelson, owners of the Hartford Culvers, were chosen for this month’s Asset Builder Award. Since opening Culvers in Hartford, Ray and Kim have both become an integral part of the community. The Nelsons value youth and their actions display this commitment. Not only do the Nelsons provide employment opportunities for our youth, but teach their employees about giving back to the community through example. Culvers has been a valued partner to both Hartford Union High School and the Hartford Chamber of Commerce. They have supported the high school and its students through supporting events with donations and working with the special education population with job skills. When asked, the Nelsons are always willing to help with community events, especially those benefiting our youth. As employers, Ray and Kim Nelson work around their young employees’ schedules, providing the necessary support and understanding of the benefit of being involved in outside activities. They are also reinforcing the importance of reading through the incentive reading program promoted by all Culvers restaurants. Our community is fortunate to have the Nelsons helping to build Assets in our youth and consider them to be a true Asset themselves. |
